Quick to book

Call or WhatsApp any time, day or night. We come out, look at your water system and give you a written quote, so you know what will work before anything is ordered.

Done properly

Wet areas tanked, trays bedded and supported, and every joint pressure tested before it is boxed in. The parts nobody sees are the parts that decide whether a shower leaks.

Priced up front

The shower, the scope and the price in writing before we start. If a cheaper shower will do the job just as well in your house, we will tell you.

Why use EcoBuild

24 hours a day

Nights, weekends and bank holidays. One number for every London borough, answered by the people who do the work.

Honest advice

We check what your boiler or cylinder can actually run before you buy a shower, not after it is on the wall.

Qualified and registered

Gas Safe registered, so the boiler side of the job is covered by the same team as the shower.

Priced before we start

A written quote with the shower and the scope on it. The invoice matches what you agreed to.

How a shower job runs

We look at the system first

Mains pressure and flow rate measured at the tap, the boiler or cylinder identified, and the existing pipework traced. That tells us what is possible before anyone talks about tiles.

Written quote

The shower we recommend and why, what it costs, and how long the bathroom will be out of use. If a cheaper option does the job just as well in your house, we will say so.

First fix

Pipework run, valve set at the right depth in the wall, tray bedded and supported, and the wet area tanked. All the parts nobody ever sees and every part that decides whether it leaks.

Second fix and testing

Screen, head and controls fitted, everything run and checked for leaks, silicone cut in. Give the sealant a day to cure and it is ready to use.

Shower installations we carry out

The single most common mistake is buying the shower first and finding out afterwards that the system will not run it. Tell us what you have and we will tell you what will work in your house.

Electric showers

Heats its own water straight from the cold mains, so it works whatever the boiler is doing and keeps running when the hot water has been used up. The trade-off is flow rate: the higher the kilowatt rating, the better the shower.

  • Independent of the boiler
  • Works on low hot-water pressure
  • Needs its own high-current circuit

Walk-in showers and wet rooms

A low-profile tray or a fully formed floor with no step at all. The waterproofing underneath is what decides whether it lasts, so the whole area is tanked before a single tile goes on.

  • Fully tanked before tiling
  • Step-free options
  • Glass screens fitted square

Mixer showers

Blends hot and cold from your existing system. A thermostatic valve is the one to have, because it holds the temperature steady when someone runs a tap or flushes a toilet downstairs.

  • Thermostatic control
  • Concealed or exposed valves
  • Suits combi and unvented systems

Power showers

A mixer with a pump built in. Worth knowing before you buy one: these are only for gravity-fed systems with a tank in the loft. They must never be fitted to a combi or an unvented mains-pressure system.

  • Gravity-fed systems only
  • Strong, consistent flow
  • Not for combi boilers

Shower pumps

The fix for a gravity-fed system that dribbles. A separate pump boosts hot and cold together, giving you proper pressure without replacing the whole system. Again, only for tanked systems, never mains-fed.

Shower trays and wastes

A tray has to be properly supported and dead level, with the waste running at the right fall. Get either wrong and you get standing water in the corner and a leak into the ceiling below within a year.

  • Bedded and fully supported
  • Correct fall on the waste
  • Pressure tested before boxing in

Tiling and grouting

Tanking goes on behind the tile before anything else, then tiles are set level and grouted with a grout that suits the joint width and the room. Done properly, it looks right on day one and still looks right years later.

  • Tanked wet areas
  • Grout matched to the joint
  • Straight, even lines

Shower sealant

Silicone is what stops water getting behind the tray and into the ceiling below. Old sealant is cut out completely, the joint cleaned and dried, and fresh mould-resistant silicone cut in cleanly at every junction rather than smeared over the gap.

  • Old sealant fully removed
  • Mould-resistant silicone
  • Left to cure before use

Which shower will your system take?

This is worth two minutes of reading before you spend money on a shower that cannot work where you want to put it.

Combi boiler. Water comes straight off the mains at mains pressure, so a thermostatic mixer is usually the answer. You cannot fit a pump or a power shower to a combi — there is nothing to pump from, and doing it is against the water regulations. If the flow is poor the problem is the incoming main, not the shower.

Unvented cylinder. Also mains pressure, and generally the best of the three for showering. Mixers work well and you can run more than one outlet without the temperature wandering. No pump needed, and none allowed.

Gravity-fed with a tank in the loft. The old arrangement in a lot of London houses. Pressure depends on how far the tank sits above the shower, which is why top-floor showers dribble. This is the one where a pump or a power shower genuinely transforms things.

Not sure which you have? Send us a photo of your boiler and, if there is one, the cylinder in the airing cupboard. We will tell you which showers will work, which will not, and roughly what each option costs — before you order anything.

What affects the price

What we look atWhy it changes the cost
Swap or new positionReplacing a shower where one already exists is the quickest job here. A new position means new supply, new waste and making good.
Exposed or concealed valveConcealed looks cleaner but the wall has to be chased or built out, and the valve set at exactly the right depth before tiling.
Tray or wet roomA tray is straightforward. A formed, fully tanked wet room floor is considerably more work and often needs the joists adjusting.
Pump or electrical workAn electric shower usually needs its own high-current circuit. A pump needs a supply and somewhere sensible to sit.
Tiling and making goodWhether you want the area tiled and finished by us or just the plumbing done ready for your own tiler.
